Instagram Rolls Out New Profile Cards for Easier Connections

Instagram has launched something new, and I’m kind of into it! After a bit of testing with selected creators, Instagram is officially rolling out its new profile cards. These little cards are designed to make it super simple to link people directly to your IG profile. And honestly? It might be just the thing we’ve been needing.

Here’s the gist:

Instagram’s new profile cards are digitally flippable (yep, just like the name sounds). On one side, you’ve got a QR code that people can scan to instantly follow you. On the other, there’s a profile overview, which includes your profile pic, bio, and for creator accounts, it’ll also show your profile category and business links.

And get this—you can even add a song to play when someone opens your card! Plus, there’s a customizable background, so you can throw in an image that represents your vibe. Pretty cool, right?

Why Should You Care?

Instagram says these cards will help creators build connections with brands by offering an easy-to-share, compact version of who they are. But it’s not just for business. Think of it like a digital business card, whether you’re sharing it with friends or introducing yourself in a new group. It’s all about making that IG connection seamless.

Will People Actually Use It?

That’s the million-dollar question, isn’t it? Instagram has been down the QR code road before—since 2018, in fact—but it’s never really taken off. I mean, who among us has actually used a QR code to follow someone on Instagram? Exactly.

They’ve also played around with different styles of profile cards, but again, none of them have become a thing.

But hey, maybe this time will be different? I’m always down for a new feature that helps creators, and these profile cards do look sleek. You could totally see influencers or brands using them at events, or just sending them around as a quick “Hey, this is me—follow along!” kind of thing.

QR Codes—Instagram’s Little Obsession

If you’ve noticed, Instagram has been leaning into QR codes recently. Just a few months ago, they added QR codes for Broadcast Channels, and now here we are again. Clearly, someone at Instagram HQ thinks QR codes are the future of connection.

Will they catch on this time? Maybe! We’ve all gotten a lot more comfortable using QR codes these days (thanks, restaurants and events), so who knows? Plus, the fact that they’re combining them with profile cards adds that extra bit of flair that might just get people to give them a shot.

At the end of the day, I’m excited to see how these play out. They look fun, they’re functional, and if they make connecting with people on Instagram easier, then I’m all for it.

We’ll just have to see if it sticks! Keep an eye out for your own profile card update and let me know if you’re going to start sharing yours around!
