Instagram Tests New Notes Feature for Feed Posts and Reels

After playing around with Notes on Reels and Posts for a bit, Instagram is now running a live test with selected users to expand these options.

So, here’s the scoop: Some users are getting notifications that they can now add Notes to their feed posts and Reels. This means more ways to use those conversation starter prompts we all love to boost engagement.

If you missed it, Instagram launched Notes back in December 2022. They’re essentially quick engagement triggers that have become a hit, especially with the younger crowd. And let’s be real, Instagram really wants to keep that younger demographic hooked, especially with TikTok being the cool kid on the block.

Originally, Notes were only available in user inboxes, but Instagram has been experimenting with adding them to profiles and now to Reels and feed posts. It’s pretty clear they’re trying to build on the initial success of Notes.

But will it work? Will people actually care about this new feature?

Well, given how popular Notes have been with younger users (teens are about 10 times more likely to create a Note than everyone else), it makes sense that this could be a hit in other parts of the app too. And for those who aren’t into it? They can just ignore it and move on with their scrolling.

Overall, it seems like a pretty safe experiment for Instagram with minimal downside. And if it takes off, adding Notes to feed posts and Reels could be a big win for the platform.

Stay tuned to see how this one plays out!
