Facebook Says Put Your Links in the Comments… Wait, What?!

Okay, I wasn’t planning to talk about this, but a little tip started making the rounds and I had to bring it up—especially if you’re managing a Facebook Page or creating content for your biz.

So here’s the scoop: Apparently, Facebook (aka Meta) has been hinting that we should stop putting links in our post captions and instead, start placing them in the first comment. Yep, you heard that right. Not the post, the comments.

Some folks noticed this inside their Professional Dashboard insights—like, actual advice showing up under their post analytics. I didn’t get a screenshot (because of course not), but enough people have mentioned it that I had to pause and go, “Hmm… should we all be doing this?”

Now, here’s where it gets interesting: link posts haven’t exactly been getting a lot of love from the Facebook algorithm lately. Video and image posts? Yes. But link posts? Not so much. That’s probably why this little “tip” is even showing up.

What some pages are doing now is posting an eye-catching image or video, keeping the caption clean, and then dropping the actual link in the first comment instead. And honestly? It’s a move that makes sense if you’re trying to keep your reach up while still sharing valuable content.

Here’s the only catch: you can’t schedule first comments using most schedulers (ugh). So unless you're posting manually, it’s a bit of a hassle. But hey, if it helps your posts get seen by more people, it might be worth it!

There’s no official blog or confirmation from Meta just yet (you know they love to keep things vague), but this could be one of those sneaky-smart strategies to test out for yourself—especially heading into your 2024 content plan.

I’ll keep my eyes peeled for more updates, but in the meantime: experiment a little, check your own post insights, and see what works for your audience. Who knows? That comment section might just be your new best friend.
