All Videos Are Now Reels on Facebook
Okay, so Facebook is doing the most right now and making a BIG switch when it comes to video content. Starting soon, every video you upload to Facebook (except Lives) will now automatically be considered a Reel. Yep—no more choosing between "video" or "Reel" during upload. Facebook is going all in on the Reels format, and honestly... I’m not surprised.
So, What Does That Actually Mean?
Basically, Facebook is simplifying things (their words, not mine 🙃). Instead of juggling different tools for Feed videos and Reels, you’ll now use one single flow to upload all your videos, and they’ll show up in the Reels feed. Whether you’re uploading a quick tip, a product demo, or a behind-the-scenes look—if it’s a video, it’s a Reel now.
➡️ Exception: Livestreams are still their own thing and won’t be labeled as Reels—but they might still appear in the Reels feed depending on where and how users scroll.
A New Look + New Metrics
Another update? They’re renaming the “Video” tab to the “Reels” tab. Because branding. 🎥
Also, if you use Meta Business Suite, your insights and analytics are getting a little upgrade too. Video and Reel metrics will now be combined, and yes—you’ll still see things like 3-second views, 1-minute views, etc. You can still access your old video stats until the end of the year, but moving forward, it’s all under the Reels category.
What About Monetization?
Good question. Meta says payouts will remain the same, assuming you’re still posting consistently and getting decent engagement. So if you’re monetizing your content, no need to panic—just keep doing your thing.
Why the Change?
Honestly? It makes sense. Reels are Facebook’s top-performing content right now. People are spending more time scrolling through them than anything else—so of course, Meta is pushing more creators into that lane. 📈
They even shared data during their FTC trial showing just how much Reels have taken over in terms of user engagement. Meanwhile, TikTok is letting users post up to 60-minute videos (😱), so this is Facebook’s way of staying competitive and streamlined.
My Thoughts
I’m curious how this shift will land with Facebook’s older or less tech-savvy users. Will they get confused? Will they realize everything’s now a “Reel” even if they just wanted to post a regular ol' video? We’ll see. 👀
But overall, if Reels are where the eyeballs are, and Facebook is making it easier to use one flow, one set of tools, and one tab to manage it all—this could be a good thing. Just be ready for that learning curve if you're helping clients or teammates who aren't always up on the latest updates.
