Instagram’s Testing a Built-In Teleprompter
Instagram is working on something that might make your on-camera content way less awkward: a built-in teleprompter in their new Edits app.
Yep, no more taping notes to your ring light or trying to memorize your script five minutes before recording. This update will literally let you write your script and have it scroll on-screen while you record in the app. So you can look at your phone camera and read your lines at the same time—without shifting your eyes like you're auditioning for SNL.
The cool part? You can tweak the scroll speed and the text size, so it works for your style. Want it slower and bigger so you don’t feel rushed? Done. Need it to move faster so you’re not staring too long? Easy.
Honestly, I think this is going to be a game-changer for people who want to show up on camera but get nervous about messing up what they want to say. Especially for creators, small biz owners, and people doing educational content—it helps you sound polished without sounding robotic.
And side note: videos with actual humans in them? They perform better. Instagram knows it, we know it, the algorithm definitely knows it. So if this tool helps you show up more confidently on video, I say YES.
Instagram mentioned this update in an interview with Wired recently, and it sounds like we’ll see most of these features roll out in their new Edits app (not the main IG app—for now, anyway). They’re also adding more AI-powered tools like background generation and the ability to place yourself into different settings or character types (hello, green screen vibes 2.0).
Are the AI visuals still a little weird? Yeah, kinda. But they’re getting better fast, and Instagram is clearly trying to make the Edits app the go-to space for creating short-form video.
So, if you’re thinking about leveling up your content this year, keep an eye on this. A built-in teleprompter might be the push you need to start talking more directly to your audience—and doing it confidently.
