Instagram Just Made a Tiny Update—But Creators Will Love It
Okay, this might seem like a small update, but if you’re someone who really pays attention to how your content looks on the feed, this one’s for you.
Instagram now officially supports 3:4 aspect ratio images. 🎉 That means if your phone naturally shoots in 3:4 (which most do), you can upload it as-is, and it’ll look exactly like what you shot—no weird stretching, no awkward cropping. Just clean, accurate visuals.
Here’s what Instagram said via their Creators channel:
“Going forward when you upload a 3:4 image it’ll now appear exactly as you shot it. This works with both single-photo posts and carousels.”
It’s honestly not a huge change for everyone, especially if you’re mostly doing video content (which—let’s be real—is kind of the main thing on IG right now). But for photographers, creatives, and people who like their visuals polished and intentional? This is a nice little win.
You can still upload 1:1 (square) or 4:5 images if that’s your thing, but having 3:4 supported natively just gives you more flexibility—especially if you’re trying to keep your feed looking cohesive.
Now, quick reality check:
Instagram has been leaning heavy into video, especially Reels, and a big chunk of your feed is probably AI-recommended videos these days. So no, this isn’t going to change the platform back into the photo-sharing app it once was.
But still—photos aren’t dead. They’re still meaningful, especially among friends or more curated feeds. And if you’re posting them, might as well make them look good, right?
Anyway, just a heads-up for your content planning. If you shoot 3:4, IG’s finally caught up. 🙌
